Description

A rich and creamy macaroni and cheese recipe loaded with crispy bacon.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
  • 1 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese and Gruyere cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Add cooked macaroni and crumbled bacon to the cheese sauce. Stir to combine.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy topping, you can bake the mac and cheese in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Feel free to add other cheeses like Monterey Jack or Colby for a different flavor profile.
