Description
A rich and creamy macaroni and cheese recipe loaded with crispy bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
- 1 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk and heavy cream until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar cheese and Gruyere cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add cooked macaroni and crumbled bacon to the cheese sauce. Stir to combine.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- For an extra crispy topping, you can bake the mac and cheese in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Feel free to add other cheeses like Monterey Jack or Colby for a different flavor profile.
