Easy Valentine’s Day Swirl Cookies

Description

Simple pinwheel cookies decorated with sprinkles, perfect for Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red food coloring
  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles


Instructions

  1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide dough in half. Tint one half with red food coloring.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each half of dough into a rectangle.
  7. Layer the red dough on top of the plain dough.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly from the long end to form a log.
  9. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  11. Slice the dough log into 1/4-inch thick cookies.
  12. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  13. Press sprinkles onto the tops of the cookies.
  14. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  15. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For sharper swirls, chill the dough for longer, up to 2 days.
  • You can use different colors for a festive look.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
