Description

A simple recipe for swirled cookies perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red food coloring

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half. Tint one half with red food coloring.
  6. Chill both doughs for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Roll out each dough color into a rectangle of equal size.
  8. Stack the dough rectangles, red on top of white.
  9. Roll up the stacked dough tightly from one of the long sides.
  10. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  11. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  12. Slice the chilled dough log into 1/4-inch thick cookies.
  13. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them.
  14. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  15. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a stronger swirl, you can add a few drops more food coloring.
  • Ensure the dough is well-chilled before slicing for clean cuts.
