Description

Soft and chewy sugar cookies flavored with eggnog and topped with a festive frosting.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: festive sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the eggnog, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Cover the dough and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. To make the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the eggnog, until smooth and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  11. Once the cookies are completely cool, spread or pipe the frosting onto the cookies.
  12. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results.
  • Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added.
  • Chill the dough sufficiently to make it easier to handle.
  • Adjust the amount of eggnog in the frosting to reach your desired consistency.
