Description

A simple recipe for delicious chocolate sugar cookies, perfect for any holiday celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk


Instructions

  1. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Divide dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  8. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set.
  10. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Decorate as desired.

Notes

  • For softer cookies, bake for a minute or two less.
  • For crisper cookies, bake for a minute or two longer.
  • Dough can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Roll dough between two sheets of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
