A simple recipe for delicious chocolate sugar cookies, perfect for any holiday celebration.
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set.
- Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Decorate as desired.
Notes
- For softer cookies, bake for a minute or two less.
- For crisper cookies, bake for a minute or two longer.
- Dough can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Roll dough between two sheets of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
